Scope and Contents
The J. Chandler Smith collection house the personal papers of Chandler Smith, M.D.. This collection which dates from 1949 to 2002, consists of manuscripts, essays, articles, scrapbooks, photographs, writing notes, school memorabilia, needlepoint, and curriculum vitae, evidencing the life of Chandler Smith.
This collection while housing a collection of Chandler’s scholarly articles, is mainly a repository for his philosophical opines on subjects such as war and morality. It also contains a number of writings and letters on famous personalities, natural sciences, and geography. An avid traveler, the collection is filled with a number of scrapbooks and writings on his visits to far flung locales such as Norway and Uganda. His fervor for peace and equality for all people is well documented in his prolific writings and the art he created as visual motifs of his beliefs.
His wife Dorothy Tabb Smith donated this collection after his passing.
