Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Frank G. Everett papers house research and scholarly output of Dr. Frank Everett. The collection dates from 1951 to 1985, with the bulk of the material dating from 1951 to 1975. The papers in Series I include reprints of some of Everett's articles, an edited typescript of Periodontics (by B. Orban), assorted theses that Everett likely used for reference, directories for many of the slides in Series II, an incomplete run of the U.S. Army's "Regional Dental Activity" newsletter, a series of bibliographic note cards, and what appears to be the original card catalog for the Frank Everett Dental Library, once housed in the OHSU School of Dentistry building. These papers and slides were found among those books in 2013 when the library was disbanded and the historical documents and rare books became part of OHSU's Historical Collections & Archives.

The slides in Series II contain a wide assortment of image material. The majority of the slides depict x-rays of patients and frequently include the patient's name and date information; this sort of material is restricted due to privacy issues. It is likely that most of the slides were part of Everett's research, but very little documentation accompanied them. A section of the slides are marked as coming from a lecture, while the rest either note the malady depicted in the slide's image or are unmarked. The tissue slides, with the exception of box 1, are unlabeled, with each slide offering a small blood or other tissue sample, yet revealing very little about the origination of the material.

All in all, this collection offers a small glimpse into Dr. Everett's research and may be expanded upon with future additions. The material is largely focused on gingivitis, in various forms, and other dental maladies. Given the restricted nature of much of the material, it will likely prove most helpful to other dedicated health professionals who are doing research in a similar area.
