Nine leatherette bound "Monthly Time Book and Payroll" ledgers, noting the name, sex, complication of mother, analgesia, anesthesia, delivery type, resusitation, weight at birth and current weight, exam administered to child (deceased or diagnosis), and formula of individual infants from 1951-1970.

Historical note

In 1950, Shirley Thompson, R.N., Superintendent of Doernbecher Hospital at OHSU began developing the first premature baby unit in the Northwest. Dr. S. Gorham Babson, M.D. kept a record of all the preemies admitted from the beginning in January and February 1950, including their weights and the increased numbers of preemie patients that occurred each year. OHSU was they only facility that had a specific premature unit and would transport babies from all over Oregon for care.

Abstract

This collections contains ledgers that note assorted information regarding patients and births in the Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Oregon Medical School between 1951 and 1970.

Immediate Source of Acquistion

Katie Riley of the OHSU Neonatal Intensive Care Unit transferred the materials to the OHSU Historical Collections & Archives in July of 2011.
