Historical Note
The Outpatient Clinic opened in 1931 on Marquam Hill. Originally, outpatient services for the Medical School were provided by the People’s Institute and Free Dispensary which was established in 1907. In 1909 it became affiliated with the Medical School. In 1921, it was taken more completely under the auspices of the Medical School as an outpatient clinic. In 1931, a gift of $400,000 from the General Education Board of New York made possible a modern outpatient clinic on campus. The clinic was then taken over entirely by the Medical School.
