Abstract

The Eleanor Donaldson papers span the years 1909 to 1954 and contain an assortment of materials kept by or about Eleanor, primarily during her time serving in the Nurse Corps of Base Hospital 46 in Bazoilles-sur-Meuse, France during World War I. Materials include photographs, posters, correspondence, publications, obituaries, artifacts, and other documents.

Abstract Esther Clayson Pohl Lovejoy (1869-1967) was the second woman to graduate from the University of Oregon Medical School in 1894, served as Portland’s City Health Officer and with the Red Cross during World War I, led the American Women’s Hospital Service, and helped found and served as the first president of the Medical Women’s International Association. Abstract

Grace Phelps (1871-1952) was a prominent Oregonian health professional and nursing advocate who maintained a career as a practicing nurse from approximately 1900 to 1942. This collection houses the professional and public records of Grace Phelps, and includes materials relating to her time as head nurse at Base Hospitals 45 and 46 during WWI; head nurse at the Portland Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital; and Superintendent at Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children.

The Department of Neurology has donated a variety of certificates, documents and glass lantern slides of Dr. Laurence Selling ( -1964), famous neurologist and chief of the Dept of Medicine for 25 years until 1947.

Abstract

Dr. John Guy Strohm came to Oregon shortly before World War I, organized the first army unit to leave Portland, and was in the original nucleus of the 91st division. He also organized the 46th General Hospital sponsored by the University of Oregon Medical School. The scrapbook contains primarily collected newspaper clippings as well as a photograph, booklet, correspondence, and other documents.
