University of Oregon Medical School faculty minutes
The minutes record the growth of the University of Oregon Medical School from its inception in 1887, including the petition to the Board of Regents of the University of Oregon to establish a medical school in Portland, through the development of higher standards and requirements for medical education, new programs, departments, research, technology, land acquisition and building projects. Also included are various correspondance between departments, faculty and students.
UOMS/OHSU Library records
The OHSU library was founded in 1893 as part of the University of Oregon Medical Department. In 1919, the library’s 4,000 books moved up the hill to what is now Mackenzie Hall. In 1939, the library moved into a new building next door and then relocated again in 1991 with the opening of the Biomedical Information Communication Center (BICC). This collection spans the library’s history, with materials produced largely by library employees and committee members.
Ruth Wiens papers
Ruth Avery Wiens was an experienced psychiatric mental health nurse who worked at St Vincent Hospital and Medical Center as its Nursing Director; at the Veterans Administration Hospital; and at the UO School of Nursing as Dean Pro-Tem during the transition in SON leadership between Jean Boyle (1957-75) and Carol Lindeman (1976-95). Many of her papers have been donated which show the inter-relationships of nursing and nursing education.
