Biographical Note

What’s Going On? was published in the interest of the faculty, employees, students, and friends of the University of Oregon Medical School. News items for the publication were mailed to Public Affairs located in the Medical School Administration Building. In 1961, Oregon’s state operated colleges and universities registration reached an unprecedented high, making the institutions unable to absorb the cost of more students. To reduce this deficit, it was suggested that the current student-teacher ratio be increased from 16.1 to a statewide ratio of 17.3 students for every teacher. The article titled “Meet Dr. Marquam” was designed to address student-teacher ratios and the responsibilities of the faculty at the University of Oregon Medical School.
