Historical Note

OHSU launched the Board of Overseers and Trustees in 1979 with the purposes of understanding the complex nature of an academic health sciences center and serving as advocates for the university. They also actively seek resources from the private sector to supplement the state's 27 percent contribution to the university’s budget so that new centers of excellence can be established within the institution, provide advice and counsel to the president and administration as needed, let faculty and staff know their efforts are recognized and valued, lend credibility to university statements, and further enable the university to be an active contributor to Oregon’s economic revitalization.
