Scope and Contents
This collection has a wide assortment of papers, ephemera, documents, correspondence, yearbooks, photographic, and radiologic prints and film, covering both his professional career and rich family life. Among his papers are the manuscripts of Ivan Woolleys "Roentgenology in Oregon: the First Fifty Years".

Biographical note
M.D., U Oklahoma (1935); Radiologist; Intern and Resident, Cleveland City Hospital and TB Hospital, Cleveland Oh.(1935-38); Radiology fellowship, Cleveland Clinic (1939-42); WWII service US Army Medical Corps, South Pacific (rank Captain -Lt. Col.) (1943-46, then to Reserve status); moved to Oregon (1946) and soon joined faculty at UOMS as Clinical Instructor; also practiced at Portland Clinic (1946-51); Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland (1951-95); Physicians and Surgeons Hospital (c 1960-77).
Memberships: A.M.A.; Diplomate, American Board of Radiology (1942); Pres., Oregon Radiological Society (1950); Pres., Pacific Northwest Radiological Society (1953); V.P., Radiological Society of North America (1964); Pres., Multnomah Co. Medical Society (1966); 95th President Oregon Medical Association (1968-69);American College of Radiology- Fellow and Board of Chancellors (1968-73), Sec-Treasurer (1972-74), V.P.(1975); Pres. , Rotary Club of Portland (1974); Oregon Doctor-Citizen of the Year, OMA (1974-75); Pres.,Medical Research Foundation of Oregon (1981-82); Board Member Emeritus, Oregon Health Sciences Foundation (1994-2000); also City Club of Portland and Meals On Wheels driver.
Awards: Meritorius Service Award from Multnomah Co. Medical Society (1973); OMA Citizen-Doctor of the Year (1974-75); Outstanding Physician Award from Oregon Foundation for Medical Excellence (1989).

Abstract
The papers of noted Portland radiologist J. Richard Raines, M.D. (1911-2006) have been added to the OHSU Archival collections.
Arrangement
The many different sorts of materials have been serialized into subjects and arranged chronologically whenever possible. Some of the radiographic glass plate films have cracked and been taped back together. Glass plate films are in buffered packets.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The materials were created and /or collected by physician and diagnostic radiologist, J. Richard Raines. Judge Keith Raines, son of Dr. Raines, donated all of the materials belonging to his father.
