Abstract

Dr. J. Guy Strohm was an early organizer of the 46th General Hospital and served in North Africa (Oran) and France (Besancon) as commanding officer of the hospital. Images in this collection are of soldiers, nurses, and hospital personnel under Strohm's command at the 46th General Hospital 46.

Abstract

Irene and Hugh Currin served abroad together as nurse and doctor, respectively, with the 46th General Hospital from Portland during World War II in both North Africa and France. This collection contains military documentation, photographs, postcards, memoirs and obituary, diaries, World War II era ephemera from their tours, newspaper clippings, and letters detailing their story.

Abstract Dr. H. Leslie Frewing served as a surgeon with the 46th General Hospital during World War II. After the war ended, Frewing settled with his family in Vancouver, Washington, and became one of the four founders of The Vancouver Clinic before continuing medical work abroad. Naida F. Hoffman Hurlburt served in the Nurse Army Corps during World War II in the 46th General Hospital. She was stationed in North Africa and Southern France and eanred the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1945. This collection consists of items collected during her time abroad, as well as memorabilia, photographs and ephemera.
