Scope and Contents

The materials consist of a nurse’s official dress uniform (World War II) with insignia and unit citations, nurse’s field jacket, fatigue shirt, musset bag, web belt, accessories, documents, financial statements, memorabilia, paraphernalia, and ephemera related to World War II and the 46th General Hospital. Also included are 2 photographs of Naida F. Hoffman Hurlburt and numerous black and white negatives of Africa, Europe and Ft. Riley.

Biographical Note

Naida F. Hoffman Hurlburt was born in Santana, Kansas on June 19, 1915. Ms. Hurlburt attended Santana High School and practiced as a student nurse in Garden City, Kansas at St. Catherine’s Hospital. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II in the 46th General Hospital. She was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, Oran, North Africa, and Besançon, France between July 15, 1942 and February 6, 1946. She was appointed 1st Lieutenant on April 16, 1945.

Abstract

Naida F. Hoffman Hurlburt served in the Nurse Army Corps during World War II in the 46th General Hospital. She was stationed in North Africa and Southern France and eanred the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1945. This collection consists of items collected during her time abroad, as well as memorabilia, photographs and ephemera.

Acquisition Information

Naida F. Hoffman Hurlburt created and/or collected the materials. They were donated and transferred by Ms. Hurlburt to the Oregon Health & Science University Historical Collections & Archives in April 2003. The archivist processed the collection in April, 2003. The 2005 addendum was received and processed in December 2005.
