OHSU launched the Board of Overseers and Trustees in 1979 with the purposes of understanding the complex nature of an academic health sciences center, building relationships with individuals and organizations in the private sector, and serving as advocates for the university. The OHSU School of Nursing began in 1919 at the University of Oregon and offered the state’s first professional courses in nursing. The origins of the OHSU School of Nursing can be traced to the summer of 1919 when the University of Oregon introduced the state’s first professional courses in nursing.
