University News and Publications print collection
Scope and Contents
The extensive collection spans from 1937 to 2024 and traces the history of the institution through publications, newsletters, brochures, reports, press releases and media coverage, school program catalogs and handbooks, commencement programs, and correspondence. In addition to printed materials, a small collection of 3.5" floppy disks is included (though at the time of processing, the contents of the disks were inaccessible due to technology failure or incompatibility).
The collection is divided into four series: I. Administrative, 1977-2002; II. Publications, 1937-2024; III. Brochures and ephemera, 1945-2015; IV. Press, 1970-2007. Series IV is divided into two subseries: IVa. Press releases, 1970-2007 and IVb. Media coverage, 1980-2007. Series are arranged alphabetically by folder title with the exception of series IV where records are largely arranged chronologically.

Historical note
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is a public research university focusing primarily on health sciences. The institution was founded in 1887 as the University of Oregon Medical Department and later became the University of Oregon Medical School. In 1974, the campus became an independent, self-governed institution called the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center, combining state dentistry, medicine, nursing, and public health programs into a single center. It was renamed Oregon Health Sciences University in 1981 and took its current name in 2001, as part of a merger with the Oregon Graduate Institute (OGI).
Strategic Communications at OHSU manages the media produced by and about the university, including major news stories and events. Although now known as Strategic Communications, the department has held different names throughout the years, including University Relations and Public Affairs, University News and Publications, and the Communications Office. In addition, this collection includes publications produced by other institutional departments, such as EdCOMM, Public Relations, the Office of the Provost, and the OHSU Foundation.
