Oregon schools of medicine and nursing student records collection

Abstract

The Willamette University School of Medicine, founded in the 1860s in Salem, and the Multnomah School for Nurses, founded in 1910 at the Multnomah County Hospital, eventually merged with the University of Oregon Medical School in 1915 and 1932, respectively. This collection consists of matriculation registries, gradebooks, educational correspondence, and student records evidencing the academic achievements of students from these institutions.

Grace Phelps papers

Abstract

Grace Phelps (1871-1952) was a prominent Oregonian health professional and nursing advocate who maintained a career as a practicing nurse from approximately 1900 to 1942. This collection houses the professional and public records of Grace Phelps, and includes materials relating to her time as head nurse at Base Hospitals 45 and 46 during WWI; head nurse at the Portland Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital; and Superintendent at Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children.

Abstract

The materials consist of papers regarding industrial health and safety in the workplace, most of which were created and compiled by Medical Director of the Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation, Forrest E. Rieke, M.D. The Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation, located in St. Johns, was among three Kaiser Shipyards established in Portland, Oregon in order to mass assemble war ships during WWII.

Anne Rosenfeld, Ph.D.,R.N., C.N.S., F.A.H.A., was associate professor and co-director, OHSU Center for Research on Symptom Management in Life-Threatening Illness and Associate Dean for Research, Innovation and Translation in the School of Nursing. Her papers include an extensive collection of articles and artifacts spanning over 20 years. Cardiology and heart health awareness are the primary topics covered in the contents of the papers.

University of Oregon Medical School nursing clerkship papers
