Abstract Ralph Edward Peterson, M.D., graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant and as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Clark Air Force Base in Manila, Philippines from 1960 to 1966. From 1968 until he retired, Peterson practiced medicine in Naples, FL, and also served in the National Guard from 1977 to 1991. Kenneth C. Swan was a long-time Chief of Ophthalmology whose papers include article reprints, research materials, personal papers, departmental business matters, promotional ephemera and publications, lectures, and meeting notes. They cover not only his own research and inventions in ophthalmologic disease and surgery, but also the creation and expansion of the Casey Eye Institute in conjunction with the Oregon Elks Association.
